You Are Becoming

October 11, 2026 | Santiago Kneeland

Your life is not simply something that happens to you; it is the unfinished story of who you are choosing to become.

You Are Becoming

“The local universes are the starting points of true evolution, the spawning grounds of bona fide imperfect personalities endowed with the freewill choice of becoming cocreators of themselves as they are to be.” 116:4.8 (1272.7)

We often think of ourselves as products of circumstance. We were born into a particular family, shaped by a particular culture, given certain opportunities and limitations, and influenced by countless experiences we never chose. But none of that tells the whole story. Within every person is something more powerful: the capacity to respond, to choose, to grow, and to become.

That means identity is not entirely something we discover—it is also something we create. Every decision contributes to the person we are becoming. The way we respond when we are criticized. What we do when nobody is watching. Whether we choose courage when fear would be easier. Whether we forgive, serve, learn, persevere, or remain trapped in old patterns. These moments may seem small, but together they become a life.

This is where spiritual growth becomes deeply practical. We are not simply trying to become more knowledgeable, successful, or impressive. We are participating in our own formation. The person we become is being shaped by the freedom we exercise today. Circumstances may influence our starting point, but they do not have to determine our destination.

Perhaps one of the most empowering questions we can ask ourselves is not “Who am I?” but “Who am I becoming?” Because that question reminds us that the story is still being written—and that our next choice matters.

REFLECTIVE CHALLENGE:
Take five quiet minutes today and finish this sentence:
“If I continue making the choices I am making now, I am becoming someone who…”

Don't judge the answer. Just be honest with yourself. Then ask: What is one choice I could make today that moves me closer to the person I truly want to become?
