The Sacred Rhythm of Human Feeling

February 21, 2026 | Santiago Kneeland

Jesus' emotions weren't erased by his faith - they were real, raw, and authentic. He felt it all, showing us it's okay to feel deeply 💖.

The Sacred Rhythm of Human Feeling

"Jesus experienced that natural ebb and flow of feeling which is common to all human experience..." 182:3.7 (1969.2)

Jesus experienced the natural ebb and flow of feeling that is common to all human life. His inner world was not frozen in constant serenity nor detached from emotional movement. Joy and sorrow, strength and weariness, confidence and questioning all passed through his experience, affirming the full authenticity of his humanity.

This rhythm of feeling reveals something deeply reassuring: spiritual maturity does not abolish emotion. It dignifies it. The fluctuations of feeling are not signs of failure but evidence of life being fully lived. What distinguished Jesus was not emotional immunity, but emotional integration—feeling deeply without being ruled by feeling.

In this, he offers a liberating model for the inner life. Faith does not require emotional constancy; it requires direction. Even as feelings rise and fall, purpose remains steady. The soul learns to move with life’s tides without losing its orientation toward truth, love, and trust in God.
