The Peace of Trust

September 3, 2026 | Santiago Kneeland

Sometimes peace begins when we stop trying to control what only God can hold.

The Peace of Trust

“By faith in God I have attained peace with him.” Ganid, 131:10.6 (1454.3)

We often imagine peace as something that arrives when everything in our lives finally falls into place. When the problem is solved, the relationship is repaired, the future is secure, the finances are stable, or the uncertainty disappears. But if our peace depends upon circumstances being peaceful, we will spend much of our lives waiting for peace to arrive. Faith offers another possibility. It allows us to experience peace before everything is resolved—not because we understand everything, but because we trust the One who does.

There is something profoundly liberating about reaching a point where we no longer need to have every answer. Faith does not mean that questions disappear. It means that our questions no longer have to control us. We can acknowledge uncertainty without being consumed by it. We can face disappointment without assuming that God has abandoned us. We can recognize our own limitations without believing that the future is hopeless. The soul begins to discover that God's presence is more dependable than the circumstances surrounding it. Peace becomes less about controlling life and more about trusting the Father within it.

This kind of peace is not passive resignation. It does not mean giving up on growth, responsibility, or action. In fact, genuine spiritual peace can make us more capable of acting wisely. When fear is no longer making every decision for us, we can listen more clearly. When anxiety loses its grip, we can respond rather than react. When we trust that our lives have meaning beyond today's circumstances, we gain the courage to do what is right even when the outcome remains uncertain. Faith gives the soul a stable center from which to engage with an unstable world.

Perhaps that is what it means to be at peace with God. It is not merely believing that God exists or accepting a collection of religious ideas. It is gradually reaching a place where the heart says, I trust You. I may not understand this moment. I may not know what comes next. I may still have fears and questions. But I no longer need to carry the entire universe on my shoulders. I can do what is mine to do and leave the rest in the Father's hands.

And sometimes that is enough to change everything. The storm may still be outside. The uncertainty may still be present. The problem may not yet have an answer. But something inside us has become quiet.

Faith does not always change the circumstances. Sometimes it changes the person experiencing them—and that is where peace begins.

What is one thing you are carrying today that you could place more fully into God's hands?
