The Living Nature of Goodness

January 9, 2026 | Santiago Kneeland

Goodness is a living, evolving force that grows with us, shaped by choices and experience, guiding us toward what's real and enduring through truth, beauty, and sincerity.

The Living Nature of Goodness

"Goodness is living, relative, always progressing, invariably a personal experience, and everlastingly correlated with the discernment of truth and beauty." 132:2.7 (1458.4)

Goodness is not a fixed ideal etched into stone; it is alive, responsive, and unfolding within experience. It grows as we grow, shaped by choice, tested by circumstance, and refined through reflection. What was once sufficient matures into something deeper as understanding expands and character strengthens.

Because goodness is personal, it cannot be borrowed or imposed. It emerges where truth is honestly discerned and beauty is genuinely appreciated—not as abstractions, but as lived realities. Each moment of insight, each act of sincerity, adds dimension to the soul’s capacity to recognize what is higher, truer, and more harmonious.

In this way, goodness becomes the quiet bridge between knowing and becoming. Truth gives it clarity, beauty gives it attraction, and experience gives it substance. Together, they guide the inner life forward, not toward static perfection, but toward ever-greater alignment with what is real and enduring.
