The Divine Joy Within

May 22, 2026 | Santiago Kneeland

The indwelling presence of God within the human soul elevates even our joy, transforming simple happiness into a reflection of divine life.

The Divine Joy Within

"That part of God (the Adjuster) which becomes an eternal part of the personality of an ascendant mortal contributes the overtones of divinity to the joyous expressions, even spiritual laughter, of the ascending creatures of time and space." 48:4.20 (550.1)

Hidden within every human life is a fragment of the divine—the mysterious presence often referred to as the Adjuster. This inner gift from God quietly guides, inspires, and uplifts the evolving personality of each person. Though unseen, it participates intimately in the growth of the soul, shaping the eternal character that continues beyond the experiences of time and space.

As mortal beings grow spiritually and gradually align their will with the divine will, this indwelling presence becomes an increasingly integrated part of their identity. It contributes what the revelation calls the “overtones of divinity” to human experience. Even our joy begins to change in quality. Laughter, happiness, and celebration take on a deeper meaning—they become expressions not only of human emotion but of the living spirit within.

True spiritual growth does not diminish joy; it enlarges it. The presence of God within the soul transforms happiness into something richer and more luminous. The ascending creatures of time and space carry within them a divine companion who shares in their victories, uplifts their struggles, and even echoes through their laughter—reminding them that the universe itself is ultimately grounded in joy.
