This month we're sharing the ministry of one of our family of CFU supporters, Joel Garbon. Joel explained his ministry to us in this way:
I have observed that there is a "God-sized hole in the heart" of men (specifically males), who are hungry for meaning and purpose in the midst of the world's despairing messages to youth. They have a hunger for truth and certainty, without knowing that God is in the middle of that quest. Women seem to have a different nature that can cope better with this, that's why my focus is on young males.
My mentoring is usually informal, one-on-one, and with no organization or business associated with it. In a few instances, I have provided more formal mentoring sessions using a process that I call "Anchoring," which involves leading the young man through a series of coordinated questions that are designed to uncover his inner wisdom. During this process, I listen deeply and mirror back to him his responses to the questions, however, I offer no direct counsel unless it is asked for.
There is no advertising or website or social media associated with my mentoring. Those I mentor may be the sons of friends and family members, or men who heard of me by word of mouth, or sometimes through some volunteer sports coaching I do from time to time.
We pray for Joel's continued success in reaching the hearts of young people as he passes by. Joel can be reached at: Joel.Garbon@thecenterforunity.org.
