Experiencing the Goodness of God

June 7, 2026 | Santiago Kneeland

The goodness of God is not fully understood through doctrine or philosophy alone—it becomes truly real through personal spiritual experience.

Experiencing the Goodness of God

“The goodness of God is a part of the personality of God, and its full revelation appears only in the personal religious experience of the believing sons of God.” 2:6.1 (40.5)

Many people believe in the goodness of God as an idea, a theological principle, or a cherished hope. They may recognize evidence of divine goodness in nature, in moral values, or in the order of the universe. While these observations can point toward God’s character, they remain incomplete. The deepest understanding of divine goodness cannot be gained solely through intellectual reflection; it must be personally experienced.

The goodness of God is an expression of the divine personality itself. Because God is personal, his goodness is most fully revealed through personal relationship. As faith grows and spiritual experience deepens, individuals begin to encounter this goodness in ways that transcend concepts and beliefs. They discover it in moments of guidance, forgiveness, peace, strength during adversity, unexpected grace, and the quiet assurance of divine companionship. What was once a belief gradually becomes a living reality.

This transformation is one of the greatest gifts of faith. The believer moves beyond merely accepting that God is good and begins to experience that goodness firsthand. Such experiences cultivate trust, deepen worship, and inspire a desire to reflect that same goodness in daily life. The more fully a person experiences God's goodness, the more naturally they become an instrument through which that goodness can touch others.
