Beyond Belief

September 29, 2026 | Santiago Kneeland

We can spend years learning about spirituality without ever allowing spirituality to transform the way we live.

Beyond Belief

“Mankind can never discover divinity except through the avenue of religious experience and by the exercise of true faith.” 101:10.4 (1116.5)

There is a difference between knowing about the divine and actually becoming aware of it. Ideas can introduce us to spiritual reality, but experience is what makes those ideas personal. Faith begins to come alive when we are willing to trust something greater than ourselves enough to let it influence our choices, our relationships, and the person we are becoming.

This is why genuine faith is more than certainty. It is a willingness to take the next step even when we cannot see the entire path. We forgive before we feel ready. We choose honesty when dishonesty would be easier. We trust that love is worth practicing even after being hurt. We serve without knowing whether anyone will notice. In these moments, spirituality stops being something we discuss and becomes something we experience.

And perhaps that is where the discovery of the divine actually happens—not in escaping ordinary life, but in bringing a deeper awareness into it. A difficult conversation becomes an opportunity for grace. A failure becomes an invitation to grow. A stranger becomes someone worthy of our attention. A quiet moment becomes an opportunity to listen inwardly.

We don't discover the deepest realities of life simply by thinking about them. We discover them by living them.

REFLECTIVE CHALLENGE:
Choose one spiritual quality you genuinely believe in—love, forgiveness, courage, trust, compassion, patience. Don't simply think about it today. Practice it deliberately in one situation where it will cost you something. Then notice what you discover through the experience.
